Something about my father. I see that so much of my personal identity is in reaction to him. With him being a 3, I have a complete reaction against any form of image. I also react against him being a violent and aggressive person. I react against all forms of ego.
Yet at the same time I have an image around having no image. Feeling superior for not being egoic and deluded like everyone else.
I used to wear the exact same clothes all the time as a show of this anti-image. It was a kind of statement for me to not change my outfit, to not groom myself or have personal hygiene. It was a way to attract attention, stand out, and differentiate myself from people deluded enough to care about their image.
Another thing is that there is a semi-conscious, semi-unconscious self-sabotaging mechanism in my psyche. It's as if I have a personal desire to become a failure in life, and to make as big a show of this failure as possible. I want to become known and seen for my failure and disregard for myself and my life. There's an unconscious tendency towards suicide. At the same time, I want this failure and this suicide to save me. I want to look so miserable that someone will care enough to rescue me, to save me.
I don't want to be like my father, but at the same time, beyond my rejection of him, I wish he could have really loved me. I wish he would have seen me and had been proud of me instead of always criticizing me, instead of feeling like I was a shame to him. I wish he would have seen me as a star instead of as a pile of siht.
Maybe my desire to fail completely in his eyes is a desire to finally get his real attention, to finally get him to love me, to finally save me and be proud of me. I wish I could have been acceptable to him.
The damage he caused me... to never feel like I could ever be right or good enough. I was a constant flaw. He couldn't see any goodness or inherent perfection in me. He always saw what was wrong in me. He always told me I was bad.
I lost my perfection. I lost my completeness.
cyto, do you see similarities?

Have thought maybe what I am seeing isnt even necessarily an instinct but just positive reframing working in general on some people. I mean my experiences come from four different men that i know to varying degrees
yeah, especially so/sx is more open about himself and his life, generally spoken.

Not sure the 7w8 was any more or less selfish persay but that both 7w6s seemed way, way, way more open to personally discussing themselves and their views than the sp 7w8. also seems to hold true for the soc 7w8 i know generally
I'm pretty open to discussing myself and my views, and I'm social last. I do have a sense of secrecy too, though, and won't just lay everything in my soul open for public viewing. Bleh.

Posted - 07 Jul 2012 : 7:08:54 PM To me theres more information and that is sacraficial but its misleading in the same breath because the same struggles are happening, just one is more open about surrenders and the other less and more personal about the experiences. So to say one is less selfish and another more loses the gist of what the fixation is for some people and confuses things more than clarifies |

Yes. I consider openness less selfish. Openness can be an expression of sacrificing something of yourself.
Also, I tend to use words like selfish in a wider conceptual way, rather then the vernacular. That's just to maybe help in understanding how I communicate and what I mean by selfish.
You could say any time you are mostly concerned with yourself over others, you are being self-ish. Not putting any moral or judgmental overlay on that, just as a way of being.
So, yeah. You're take (descriptions of the 7s you know) is on, ime.

From my understanding ot the instincts, looking at sp (conservation and self preservation), sexual (poles of sexual/spiritual), and social (relations and adaptation), then sp and sx are confluent with the 7 fixation of gluttony and also with the narcissistic focus on I and me, superceding every thing else.
Social instinct in this regard lessens the 7 'I' focus and will therefore make a 'social' 7 in the instinct sense, more sacrificial (less selfish).

I really think he must be focused on very religious social 7's, though.

Posted - 07 Jul 2012 : 12:41:21 AM quote: Originally posted by sunny There have been posts about this...I'll see if I can find one. Honestly, I don't know if it's right or not, but I've read that social 7s can be very idealistic and "saintly".
Addendum: I found this right away: http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24400
Oh, as far as making sacrifices for the sake of the group, sure, that's a social 7 thing. Naranjo's social 7 is radically different than the people I type as so 7, though. Maybe if they're particularly religious, a social 7 would turn out all saintly and nunnish, like he talks about....but non-religious social 7's, as I've experienced them, aren't much like that, and possibly even more sevenish, because they're the ones who are always in the middle of a social group, bubbly, laughing.....very much one of the general ideas about 7's....rather than being austere, the "most faithful", most sober and introverted, etc. I mean no disrespect to Naranjo, but by these standards, the social 7's I know would have to be something different. I wonder what I'd identify with, in Naranjo's writings. I also think it's pretty insulting to say self pres and sx 7's can't hold themselves back from cheating, so there I'd have to retype a lot of self pres and sx 7's as something different, too.
Just weird. Why is everyone's understanding of the E so damn different than everyone else's? Sheesh.

Posted - 06 Jul 2012 : 9:09:44 PM ha. thanks sunny but im not cool. Kind of the epidome of introverted and when i think cool i think of people openly sharing thoughts, ideas, and expressing them with a kind of fervor that inspires to some degree or another. Thats hot. if i would have a w7 that would make me a 6w7 or 8w7. neither fit at all |

Glasgow I said I dont relate to the descriptions as they are of 964. 648 fits better and Ive said a few times Im scapegoat energy, That doesnt jive with current descriptions at all imo but if I were picking 9 or 1 Id say 9. I state whats up in a very up front way in my opinion when im in my gut space. Its loud and opinionated. Not my experience with any type 9 Ive ever met.
