On that subject, a question for counterphobics and 6w7s: Woodie Allen's standard character is a pretty good prototype for the not-so-healthy ph. 6w5 (though I think Allen himself is a four). Is there a comparably iconic figure for you? A person, in other words, who's pretty universally known and who sums up the sub-type's (or w7's) pecularities in a kind of funny or caricatured way? I ask because I think sometimes these exaggerated celebrity shorthands can really make light bulbs go on for people having trouble typing themselves.

i'd love to open this question up to all types, just for fun. (edit: i've slightly changed the direction of this post, and will post a separate post to find out what media figures each type relates to best.)

i'm more prone to sticking to characters from tv/film/literature or political figures, as opposed to just actors, as i don't really follow or know anything about actors' personalities irl.

anyway, i'll get us started:

1 caricatures:
frasier crane
niles crane
lillith sternin-crane (all from "cheers" or "frasier")
lisa simpson
ned flanders
felix unger ("odd couple")

(i've always been fascinated at how often 1s in particular are caricatured!)

6 caricatures:
george costanza
george o'malley ("grey's anatomy")
eric ("that 70s show")
oscar madison ("odd couple")
carla tortelli ("cheers")

9 caricatures:
marge simpson -- the one i relate to the most, personally (not chirpy)
edith bunker ("all in the family")
robert barone ("everybody loves raymond")
fez ("that 70s show")

p.s. any guesses for seinfeld's elaine bennis? my guess is a 5 but i'm curious to hear what others think.

Wood Allen imo is 5w4 so/sx/sp. Look at his lines too. A 6w5?? A 4, triple????
Why is because he already knows what he thinks but what do you think of what he thinks? Can he explain why he thinks the way he does and if you mind, does he realize? How could he when he's minding everything? Here's a explaination to what I think but can I get it that much further with some input? Yes I can if only I could shut the [blocked due to guideline #4 violation] up!

I don't think Elaine from Seinfeld is a 5. I think she's more like a 1. Could also be a 3.

Are you referring to Walter Matthau's portrayal, or the Jack Klugmans?
The character portrayed by klugman on the tv series was a 9w8...

Niles is a 6w5... prussian style... he's wound up tighter than an eight day clock... clearly visible anxiety... the character just screams double fear/head energy... And frasier is a 3...very self promoting and image oriented...I can see how you would think they were ones tho... Both pr sixes and 3's can seem quite one-like in certain aspects...

A good type one caricature would be someone like Mr spock...

I always thought of Elaine as a 7w8. I'm glad someone else finally brought up the Frasier characters--I had a post about it, I didn't know what types they were. LOL definitely Lillith was a 1. I remember someone else typed Niles as a prussian 6. I thought Frasier was a 3w4, but I could see him being a 1 too. He and Niles are hard to type, I think. Niles was so snobby I immediately thought of 3, too. Very image conscious--they both were. Carla is either a CP6, but I've also thought she might be an 8. Oh! One of my favorite 1s is on the now defunct Commander in Chief--the President was a healthy 1, I thought. She was very idealistic, a leader, very level-headed. LOL I was watching Little House on the Prairie earlier today and I realized that Eliza Jane was most indeed a 9. I was trying to figure out the rest of the family--I know Laura Ingalls Wilder was typed as a 9, but she didn't quite seem that way on the show. Charles seemed like a compliant type--either a 1/2 combination or a 6. I think Caroline was a 2, and Mary was a 9.

Bree from Desperate Housewives is a 1w2, and a caricature, rather than a character, in my opinion.

Is Ned Flanders really a one? He seems more like a 9. Maybe a 9w1?

5, both wings. so/sx or so/sp, or...

You're not the only one. Hyde has a cynical edge that frankly doesn’t exist in the positive triad in general, and Sevens in particular. Geezus ppl are we even watching the same show?

(Gravity, I think the rest of your typings are dead on as well.)

Oh gawd, Flanders is one of those chripy platitudinous Nines who make me hate myself for wanting to throttle them.

Good points on Niles -- I stand corrected. (Though sticking to my guns on Frasier and Oscar...)

Grr

Sevens can be very, very cynical Habanero. They can often deal in extremes, therefore be the best, funniest, wittiest, most charming and outgoing yet depressive, unhealthy, unhappy and addictive people you know. I dont understand everyone's huge misconception with them -- they cant be generalised, like 6w5's verse 6w7's. Because of their extremes, they have just as much tendency (if not more) to become unhappy as any type. I generally find their balance of depth and outlook on life to be very refreshing, I find them real.

Damnit, when will people see?! Im sure most 7'es will agree that they hate these percieved notions of their shallow bubbliness, or unability to be unhappy/cynical.

6w7...'significant' wing. Bite me.
