oh bama oh bama oh bama oh
oh bama oh bama oh oh bama oh oh bama oh bama oh

I listened to Obama's speech again and the duty he spoke of was , 'there's a lot of duty in the government that needs cleaned up.

As a 9 I relate to how Obama uses his powerful voice to makes his points with extra emphasis and whip crowds into a frenzy.
"I'm driving my point home bigtime!"

There you go! There you go!! There you go!!! *pumps fist* Bring it Barack! BRING IT!!!!!
I'm so psyched I want to chest-thump someone.

It's my perception that President Obama is too serious to be a 3. I can't see Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter reacting like he did, here.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jan/21/biden-gaffe-comes-roberts-expense/
"That didn't take long. During his first full day in office, Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. made a jarring verbal gaffe, shooting a public dig at the chief justice of the United States that left President Obama grim-faced.
"When asked by Mr. Obama to administer the oath of office to White House senior staff, Mr. Biden, who is known for saying things he shouldn't, asked, "Am I doing this again?"
"Appearing in need of a cheat sheet off which he could read the oath, Mr. Biden then said, "My memory isn't as good as Justice Roberts'."
"It was a dig at Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., who during Mr. Obama's swearing-in at the Capitol on Tuesday flubbed the oath of office, causing Mr. Obama to pause and stumble through the highlight of his inauguration.
"But the new president was not amused by Mr. Biden's crack. As some in the audience drew in breath and gave low "oohs," Mr. Obama stood silently next to Mr. Biden and appeared to just barely shake his head.
"Mr. Biden then asked who he was swearing in, prompting Mr. Obama to instruct all his senior staff to stand for the oath.
"It was the most awkward moment in a ceremony full of them, highlighting the new world in which the infant administration now finds itself."

ptypes, why would a "serious" type 9 be left "grim-faced" ???
What do you think was his thinking then.??

Because they have little appetite for frivolity, especially when they're working. Biden's remarks were improper. Obama has a concern for propriety. It could be attributed to his 1-wing, if not accepted as a type 9 concern.
I got from the video that Obama was also being careful not to look undignified. |

Yeah, hard to see but anyway that could be image related which goes to type 3 more that 9. 9s take it internally/pain of unpeace, not worrying about image, which is painful to 3s.

ptypes: Sting's type is 3w4?
Almost certainly 3w4, probably INTP, maybe SP/SX.
The Enneagram Institute: We also think that Obama is difficult to type because he is a Three with a Four-wing, SO, and this subtype Variant may not be as well described as others.
David Bowie: 3w4, probably SO/SX, maybe ENTP. He is congenial and composed and rambles a bit, as your typical educated Brit does, but his neuroses seem to be of the Heart Center.
I also met a man who was probably 3w4 SO/SP. He was even a lawyer, like Obama, and indeed, on the basis of his general appearance and conveyance, before I saw more of his self-presentation, I wondered if he was a 9w1. But his radically studied self-presentation and clipped manner, expressed with what appeared to be pervasive Heart Center neuroses, determined my eventual guess. I use those particular adjectives and adverbs to distinguish his manner from that of someone who is showing just a hint of these tendencies, such as a Nine cruising at Three or maybe just anyone who has learned to adopt a quasi-Three idiom for some task at hand.
Tom Condon mentioned that all candidates look like Threes while campaigning. I don't necessarily see it that way, but I know what he means.
Those with enough knowledge and experience to understand the significance of the differences between Instinctual Variants - those who realize the importance of that point instead of egregiously regarding it as petty and disposable - are probably ahead of that curve anyway.
I appreciate how important that point is. In fact, I sense how underrepresented some aspects of Social Nine are in the usual descriptions and discussions of Nine, and I suggest that this context could be promoting misassessments of him as another type(s).
The Enneagram Institute: Here's a couple of paragraphs of the Three at Level 1

Maybe he is the messiah.

I think he did take it internally. He didn't react as a 3 would. He took it "stoically." A 3 probably would have done something to smooth over the awkward moment. Obama kept his peace. |

Newsflash: Every type has issues with how they're seen by others.
With 9s, it will have a lot do with appearing dignified, self-possessed, reasonable, calm, stable, consistent, etc.

As a type 4, I can see things in the type 7 that are a manifestation of type 4 traits. I see these things in myself and as I grow I begin to behave like a type 7. I, like all are in a development place. I'm not saying I'm at level 1. Type 4 to type 7 is two moves. In direction of integration >>>> Maybe what we're/I/they are seeing is type 3 behaving like type 9 but not type 9 behaving like type 6, or type 6 behaving like type 3 ?
