Kalisto ~ Are these olfactory 'hallucinations' just recent?

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/phantosmia/AN01684

I also read somewhere that it could just be that one smell can trigger the memory of other smells because smell is most tied to our memory in our brain.

I think that prolonged lack of enough sleep can screw up your receptors as well. I know when I've gone through periods of messed up sleep, I could have sworn I'd smell smoke. I'd get up and check the house I was that sure I could smell it.

There is also a chance it's related to thyroid conditions.

Allergies also cause phantom smells. My allergist says that its the brain trying to relate the strange smell, to something already know....

Life can be so easy for 3s, sometimes.... My wife and I were at our favorite restaurant, and our server brought me another class of ice tea, and wanted to know if I wanted to keep the lemon from the old glass.... My wife wanted to know why I was smiling, I was the only person, around us, with 2 lemons for my ice tea!

Really? How about starting with the fact that they reinforced gender stereotypes to a horrendous degree? Or finishing with the fact that the emphasis on aesthetics connected with inner beauty is disgusting? Do I really have to ... woaw.

i asked b/c i didn't want to assume why you didn't like them, though i could guess. i wanted to hear if you had any new information for me, or if you were only going to reiterate what i've already heard.

what you just wrote is nothing new nor original. i also find it to be overly cynical.

i'm not going to defend the disney company to you, b/c i don't agree with everything they do, but i will defend my right to relish things that feed my imagination and make me happy.

disneyland and disney cartoons can make me very happy, as they make me feel connected with my inner child. i was surprised how getting enthusiastic "happy birthday"s from complete strangers also made me very happy the other day.

i don't think i'm naive or backwards for finding joy in simple pleasures.

Why is it overly cynical? Do you think women should look like this?

No it isn't original or new, a quick Google search shows many people resent the stereotypes enfored onto their children by American philistines that capitalised on an international childhood market. They're also aware of the plethora of vicious side-effects:
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/383509/portrayal_of_the_female_body_image.html?cat=9
Why should I be original with ethical arguments? Should I come up with an original argument to convince you against racism? Furthermore, that you're intelligent enough to know the problems and yet you ignore them, is your choice. Certainly not mine.

i'm not going to defend the disney company to you, b/c i don't agree with everything they do, but i will defend my right to relish things that feed my imagination and make me happy.

Why should you feel you have to defend it? Am I taking it away? Certainly not. Don't attribute that power to me, when that is false, and then blame me for it.

disneyland and disney cartoons can make me very happy, as they make me feel connected with my inner child. i was surprised how getting enthusiastic "happy birthday"s from complete strangers also made me very happy the other day.

I used to feel like that, and then I grew up and felt very deceived.

i don't think i'm naive or backwards for finding joy in simple pleasures. reconnecting with that kind of little kid joy the past couple of years has actually made me a happier person overall. i'm over being sad.

Naive is not the word I would use. You've every right to your own enjoyment, as I've every right to my own opinions. Don't battle with your own stronger-than-your-comfortable-with perception and then lash out when others, not by attacking you, illuminate this for you via their own choices.

I choose to live my life with ethical awareness. Otherwise, I'd lay down and die.

yes, disney is a BUSINESS, something which i don't forget--just as the health care system is a BUSINESS in the USA. however, that doesn't mean that the entirety of either is bad. what it means is that we need to make a concerted effort to support what is good about them, so that those parts can grow.

of course you have the right to your opinions, saintly.

BUT just as i don't know what you've been through in your life that has made you see the world the way you do, you don't know what i've been through that makes me the way i am.

i'm not ignoring problems, i'm pushing forward the best i know how.

i invite you to watch a video about an organization i've worked with for the last couple years.

Girls on the Run
http://www.girlsontherun.org/video.html

(ignore the background music, and the the adults, and listen to what the girls say.)

THAT is what i'm about.

I actually have a bubbly and silly disposition. I smile a lot (which Desdemona, Lila and Gray would account for).

But, if you need to believe the opposite in order to not feel threatened by my view, then so be it.

I certainly don't feel threatened by you.

well, that's good, b/c i wasn't trying to be threatening.

i was trying to tame your anger while not being a doormat and simply agreeing with things that you said about me, and what i think, that are entirely false.

i admire your passion, but i will not let you say things about me that are simply untrue.

did something i said somewhere upset you?

p.s. i'm sorry you hurt an intercostal muscle. i know that is painful. my job is working with people who are in physical pain, though i often unintentionally end up being a sort of therapist for them as well, as enduring physical pain can bring out the vulnerable side in all of us.

I was just making the point because I thought you were acting defensive/threatened by me.

i was trying to tame your anger while not being a doormat and simply agreeing with things that you said about me, and what i think, that are entirely false.

I didn't say anything about you. Not once. Please point to where I said something about you. No, you shouldn't be a doormat.

I wasn't angry, either. Not in the slightest. I was being a bit snarky but I have an inability to shut my mouth when I see people indulging in what I think is unethical. Sorry.

okay, well i may have been defensive b/c i was hurt that you would think i was unethical and/or anti-feminist, b/c female empowerment is actually a cause that is very close to my heart.

you may not agree with some of the ways i go about things (yes, i'm a girly-girl and like some very girly-girl things), that's fine, but there is not only one way to better the world for women (boycotting anything that even remotely smells of a gender stereotype).

i have a doctorate education and am currently in the process of building my own practice, while still volunteering in 2 organizations that promote female empowerment. i think i am doing my part. give me a freaking break if i occasionally like disney movies and/or going to disneyland.
