Oh god. Yummy!

Now I'm craving pumpkin seeds. I love those as much as (or more than) pistachios.

I started a 24 hour fast at sundown yesterday. I feel extremely great right now, but I'm getting a little hungry.

On my 9th cup of sencha green tea today.

One spoon of tea leaves has about 50mg caffeine, and I re-use it for 3 cups. Almost all of caffeine is extracted in the first cup, which means that 9 cups wouldn't have much more than 150mg caffeine, half of the recommended daily limit of 300 mg for caffeine intake.

In contrast, one cup of coffee at Starbuck may have up to 320 mg cafeeine (Source), 20 mg more than the recommended daily limit.

Also, while I don't limit the amount of green tea I have a day, I don't drink it with meals or around meal times, because it contains compounds called tannins which inhibit the absorbtion of non-heme iron (non-heme means from non animal sources). Since I'm on a plant based diet, most of my iron comes fron non-heme sources.

Otherwise, drinking many cups of green tea a day is probably a good idea as most research indicates that the health benefits only appear for people who drink a substantial amount.

Tea 'healthier' drink than water

.."Drinking three or more cups of tea a day is as good for you as drinking plenty of water and may even have extra health benefits, say researchers."

.."Drinking tea is actually better for you than drinking water. Water is essentially replacing fluid. Tea replaces fluids and contains antioxidants so it's got two things going for it."

.."In terms of fluid intake, we recommend 1.5-2 litres per day and that can include tea. Tea is not dehydrating. It is a healthy drink."

That's really healthy and nutritious, dusty. Stick to brown rice as your main source of carbohydrates. I eat it during every meal - breakfast, lunch and dinner. I am interested in buying a rice cooker but I didn't see much of that here. In Japan I've seen a mind boggling variety of rice cookers ranging from simple ones costing 10,000 yen (~100$) up to very complex ones costing 100,000 (1,000$) yen above.

The great thing about these is that they can give you perfect rice each time. They are highly automated and you can program them to start cooking rice in a particular time, so that prepared warm rice will already await you the moment you come home.

Some can even be controlled with a smartphone.

I don't think I could handle eating that much brown rice. I used to really like scottish oatmeal but it makes me so sleepy.

Lol, those people are so creepy.

I feel like I should get a lot of protein so I don't get sleepy, is that how it works? Basically, things like eggs, cheese, rice, beans, bread are staple foods for me because it's an easy meal.

Protein intake raises the level of amino acid tyrosine, which prompts the brain to manufacture norepinephrine and dopamine, which promote alertness. Personally, I prefer soy products, because unlike many other sources of protein, they contain no trans fats and no cholesterol.

Carbohydrate intake raises the level of amino acid tryptophan, which prompts the brain to manufacture more seratonin, which slows down nerve traffic. This results in an effect that ranges from calming to sedative.

Personally, I experience this most with white sushi rice and less with whole brown rice, possibly because the difference in the extent to which the two are refined, which alters the glycemic index.

If you don't like the taste of brown rice, you could try a different type. Personally, I only like basmati.

soy contains estrogen. men should be careful about eating too much....actually, you could use some yin energy, so go for it.

and cholesterol isn't necessarily a "bad" thing. It only actually becomes "sticky" and can thicken your blood and/or bond to your arterial walls when cytokine is released in response to the glucose from carbohydrates. So, whole I don't subscribe to the zone diet, you can supposedly eat animal fats w/o a risk of increasing your cholesterol if you separate them from your carbs.

im currently eating my foot and my tail.

holy schitt, now that is charting unknown dimensions. I'm picturing this concoction augmented with a large dollop of macaroni and cheese instead, gently nestled atop the beans. Salt and pepper, of course. Maybe gentrify it with a garnish of finely chopped basil.

Good input, you're quite knowledgeable.

In my experience it's quite difficult to determine which diet is efficient based on available research alone which itself varies in degrees of reliability, else we wouldn't even be having the soy controversy in the first place.
