Hey guys,
I had this thread idea for a while now. Here's a shot at it:
We all use multiple tabs in our browser window (I hope). Sometimes they can pile up to pretty high amounts, and even tell a story about ourselves. I'm wondering if you would be up for sharing a list of all the tabs you have open right now, for entertainment purposes/curiosity. Here, I'll go first:
(note: remember to censor accordingly)
1) Hieroglyphic Luwian: an introduction with original texts - Annick Payne - Google Books 2) Plato, Crito, section 45b 3) Greek Word Study Tool 4) Gmail - Inbox (441) - xmyemailaddressx 5) Disney princes grace the cover of men's magazines 6) The world's oldest "Yo mama" joke is over 3,500 years old 7) Send in your stories about the world's worst roommate 8) The Cutting Edge of Ordinary: Simple Baby Bok Choy 9) Let's Play Baldur's Gate [18] Beregost - YouTube 10) xprivatex (sorry guys) 11) The Enneagram Institute Discussion Board 12) Azalea's Dress up Dolls - Regency Hero Dress up Game 13) Why does someone have to die? - YouTube 14) 4 Eidb eyes only :: Sprucebeer.jpg picture by xmex
There you have it. Not quite twenty tabs for me this time. |

Interesting idea, Enforest.
I usually open multiple windows instead of tabs. I've never known if/what difference it would make if I opened one window with multiple tabs. Perhaps you (or someone else) can explain that to me.
I keep much fewer than 20 open, tho I know of people who claim to have dozens & dozens.
I use Opera for my regular browser but I use IE for my Amazon window. Opera doesn't list the book description of used books I'm looking to buy.
My IE/Amazon window and my Gmail I only open to check, then close.
What usually stays open are:
1) my Freecell window - for taking breaks while at the computer. I do the games in numerical order. I'm up to 7511. I started this "project" while I still had my old 98se and there were only 32,000 games to do. With my XP there are a million, so I prolly won't get thru them all. I never played Freecell but my mom did. I started playing it after she died as a way to keep a remembrance/connection with her.
2) EIDB
3 & 4) private (other forum windows - not connected to the E)
5) News
Edit...lol...when I transferred this from Wordpad I left off the 2-3 Wordpads I usually have open, working on dif projects.

My tabs say I'm not very interesting.
Currently I have 1) Mozilla start page ('cause I'm weird like that) 2) email address #1 3) email address #2 4) eidb (topics list) 5) eidb (this compose window) 6) eidb (thread to nibble on today) 7) eidb (another thread to nibble on today) 8) eidb (thread to possibly reply in today) 9) weather
I have a third email address open in windows explorer b/c it plays better there currently.
Before the end of the day I'll probably have to pull up some tabs to search for solutions to technical problems. I do that in another browser instance to keep their bad juju off my personal tabs that I actually like.
Sometimes I read interesting wikipedia articles, and my other common tab genre is assorted what I loosely refer to as "hippie" though it actually isn't -- nutritional bells and whistles, aromatherapy, yoga, occasionally stuff I don't know anything about like astrology...
Most of my heavy duty reading still comes from paper books. And sadly, I don't play nearly enough, either on or off line.
I'll have to google that oldest yo mama joke

Correction. My tabs say I don't do a lot online that others would find entertaining.
My insecurities and self-worth issues say I'm not very interesting.
I gotta keep that distinction straight.

Hey enforest,
I don't generally have more than two tabs open, switching to one whilst the other one is loading. If I have too many tabs open I feel overwhelmed, like I have too many tasks to complete. Right now I have this tab open and a tab to look up "overwhelmed" at thesaurus.com, although I did open a blank tab whilst composing this post.

i never have even close to twenty tabs. I don't like clutter.
tabs most likely to be open: - mail #2 - NYTimes - a link to some article I think I'm going to get around to reading or some youtube I think I'm going to get around to watching but rarely do... it sits there long enough until I read/watch it or lose interest in it - EIDB - mail #3
menu bar links that i open often but don't keep open: - wiki - google maps - cookstr - almaas glossary - youtube - nytimes editorial cartoons - a few newspaper crossword puzzle links
on my secondary browser i have mail #4 and Facebook, but i don't check them often.

Big, big DITTO.

Haha, story of my life.
I closed most of my tabs the other day. But then I counted them again recently and I already had 11 open once again. There's usually a feeling of panic inside when I find something interesting and I can't assimilate it right away for some reason (because there's too much to read/explore!) It feels like I need to stock/store the information somewhere, and so leaving tabs open is what I do. I have the added security with firefox (the browser that I use) that it can retrieve my tabs if ever the program crashes.
I think I'd make a good researcher of sorts, because I love sifting through information for the most relevant ideas. |

I keep much fewer than 20 open, tho I know of people who claim to have dozens & dozens. I think I end up on average with more than a dozen, so that's why I made the numbering in the thread's tile so high. Of course, it sounded better too, given the obvious (though slight, in my case) hyperbole. Mmm, alliterations.
The difference between tabs and windows... well, what I like about tabs is that you have only one window open for all the webpages open on your browser application. I like that because it's neat and doesn't clutter the rest of your computer. I remember back in the early 2000s when my browser didn't have tabs. I would rack up so many open windows, you couldn't see them all on the bottom task bar. I think tabs might actually take up less space in terms of RAM usage, but I don't know since I'm a tad clueless when it comes to certain computer workings. Personally, I like the feeling of having 20 tabs open. It feels like I'm 'forever rich with important knowledge', usually since I picked all the pages I've got open.

I never played Freecell but my mom did. I started playing it after she died as a way to keep a remembrance/connection with her. I have a 9 friend who is/was addicted to freecell. She has been doing the same thing you have, but last time I checked she was only at game 940 or so. You're clearly ahead of her. Heh heh.

Give her time. I've been at it for 3 1/2 years. |

Bookmark is great for saving/storing. I prefer it to tabs for anything other than immediate attention. The only thing with that is, I have now accumulated a very long list of bookmarks.

If it makes you feel better, a lot of the interesting tabs I had open were from a 7 friend who kept sending me a bunch of interesting material to read. I left them open because I wasn't done with them. See, I'm not as interesting as I appear. Usually I have many more tabs open from academic journals and the like, and boring stuff from school classes.
1) Mozilla start page ('cause I'm weird like that) I want to ask you why. You just think it's nice to have it open, or is there a real reason behind it? I know that my mozilla start page also has a 'restore windows' button on it. Sometimes I like to not restore all tabs I lost and just open new ones, a way to separate two periods of my life, and also a way to gain an instant fresh start to my browsing.
I'll have to google that oldest yo mama joke Haha, you should. It's an interesting article to read.

I actually use it on the occasion, but usually it's for valuable resources only that I'll bookmark it. You know, a page I'll want to visit over and over again. My bookmark list is maybe only 4 or 5 items long. I'm sure I could easily end up with a mess of bookmarks if I started saving everything, lol... |

Exactly for me too, Astral. What is your stacking? I am sp/sx. Just curious as to if your type/stacking predicts how many tabs you have.

lol. Currently have the stacking theory on hold, due to a recent curve ball in thinking.
Three instincts obviously aren't enough.
I dunno, I usually have more than just three tabs. I've already magically brought up two extra ones.
