I'm reading an Helen Palmer's big book that I find it greatly accurate, at least for types I already know quite well. Her describing type 5 is very revealing about myself. And it's not much fun... for the moment. . What was great in her work is the incredible number of people she listened to and recorded, trying to find the relationship of different patterns with the core of the fixation. The chapter about type 4 and empathy was almost a shock, seeing how other 4s interviewed share exactly the same relationship to it, and attitudes in finding out the difference between moody projection and real penetrating empathy.
There are also a few things explained about types 5s and 9s which I found very interesting, how it's both alike and different : - type 5 is focussed on what others expect from them, and try to find a way to withdraw to avoid being overwhelmed by other's needs. But they are extremely aware of what people want, even too much - type 9 is focussed on other's perspectives, agendas and energies
Since, it's a French translation, I don't know the English title and I was not able to find it on the net. If I translate it brutally this is "The Enneagram, to understand oneself and others better". I think the first edition is from 1988.
Does anybody know the real English title ? |

I also recommend the Fauvre's stuff. Any of it's good but tritype is particularly illuminating: http://www.enneagram.net/products.html

i have the same problem with favure's stuff. too expensive. i put it on my wish list a while back but no one ever buys me it for x-mas. never get the suicide books either. not festive. so eh.
i liked all r&h and palmer. my one friend stole wisdom of the egram from me so i guess that's a good one.
i liked character and neurosis. i'd probably like em all if only to see how different people see it which is interesting.
i got the dummies edition for my bf so he would have some background when i babble. it was pretty good but maybe the pocket egram would be better for those purposes. it was still too much for someone not really interested in the topic.
never heard of the tao of chaos till now. so thats cool.

I read it some time ago, so it's kind of faint in the memory, but I just remember that it had some interesting reads about chaos as both nemesis and healer. It also went into a few more whimsic topics like parallel universes and stuff like that. He added the word "QUANTUM" in there a good few times, so it sounded smart. |
