Thread Closed (early)
Debriefing
Greeting competitors. This is Q.
You each earned a place as one of the final 5 to compete in the semi-final round of the battle royale. You are being contacted by a mysterious shadow organization to carry out a dangerous, top-secret mission of the utmost importance.
A criminal kingpin is terrorizing Manhattan. Spider-man is nowhere to be found, and rich people and tourists everywhere are scared to shop on 5th Avenue or purchase tickets to see Broadway shows. This needs to stop. Someone needs to put their foot down.
Your codename is "Tom Bosley". You will assemble a small strike team of "angels" to infiltrate the kingpin's criminal network, expose his wrongdoings, and bring peace and order to the metropolis.
Good luck. Report back to us with success when you can. And may the best "angels" win!
This message will self-destruct in 5 seconds. 4...3...2...1...

This thread
1. No one will choose an opponent this round. (I am sick and frackin tired of that issue, lol.)
2. Everyone will select one picture representing a time era that your angels come from. This is first come, first serve. If someone does not choose a picture, one will randomly be assigned to them.
3. Everyone will receive a spy kit of three relatively low-tech tools for your angels to use. Everyone will select three numbers, one from each numerical range: 1-5, 6-10, 11-15 (so, for example, someone could choose 4, 7, and 14 together.) If someone does not choose numbers, three numbers will be assigned to them.
The deadline for selecting a picture for your time era and your three numbers for your spy kit is Friday, March 30 at 11:59 p.m. eastern standard time. If everyone selects before then, this thread will close early and we'll move on to the battle.
Next thread
1. You will select three famous people/historical figures from your particular time period. These are your "angels." It can be anyone relatively significant to that era. You may not use anyone who is primarily a military or religious figure, you may not choose fictional characters, you may not use any cast of any version of Charlie's Angels (e.g. Kate Jackson, Drew Barrymore, etc.), and you may not choose several people who are all related (e.g. the whole Partridge Family...you may select only one of them. There should be some variety in your choices.) Permissible choices might be to pick an activist, a politician, a celebrity, an artist, a criminal, etc.
2. You will "repurpose" each of them and assign them to one of the following roles -
Your point-man, someone who accompanies you and can get their hands dirty, e.g. breaking and entering, physical fights, disposing of evidence, etc.;
Your utility/special-ops person - this person is a support role which provides monitoring and surveillance, lab analysis, and such;
Your "face" - this person is a double-agent who infiltrates the kingpin's organization using deception. This person may use seduction and feminine wiles, or be a gambling "pal", or a pseudo-corrupt politician, etc. Whatever archetype or role works for you.
You will assign one of your three spy kit items for each of your angels to use.
3. Each contestant will post the following -
a) The location of your secret headquarters.
b) The name and photo (if possible) of your three angels. You will also post which role you assigned them, and which spy kit tool they will use.
c) Persuade us why your team is the best - this can include any strengths they have, and how they work well together as a team. Paint for us a brief "picture" of your team. The context for their strategy is the following...
Debriefing: Part 2
Glad to see you're still with us, "Tom Bosley." We just received intel that the kingpin is throwing a gala bash to celebrate reduced ticket sales for Spider Man: the Musical. What a sick bastard.
Your team will surprise the kingpin at the gala and catch him in your net. Your "face" will attend as a guest. Your support person will set up some place of your choice around the building (not a specific building, just use a generic concept) to monitor things and provide surveillance. And you and your point-man will bust down the door (or crash through the skylight...whatever...), break some noses, and take those creeps down!

However...the kingpin will be one step ahead of you and foil your plan! Thus, after you provide a brief description of your set up at the party, your angels will be captured and dropped into a Gong-Show that on the surface is silliness, but is really about doom! Doom, I tell you!
Your three angels will have to survive using wits and comedy. If they can make the kingpin laugh, he will laugh uncontrollably and you can tie him up (or at least make your getaway.) If he is unimpressed, he'll open a trap-door and drop you into a pit filled with delicious sugary desserts and those horrible people from that enneagram board! Avoid that at all costs!

This is the special twist in the game, competitors. Your team of angels should be, above all...entertaining! Which way will you take this? Will you use the daring exploits of Al Capone? The jiggly boopsiness of Pamela Anderson? The feminist stand-up of Elizabeth Cady Stanton? Or the nostalgic storytelling of J.D. Rockefeller?
The choice is up to you! But the point is - you have to account for how your team not only infiltrates the gala, but how they survive the Gong-Show of silliness I mean doom!
4. Boardies will vote who wins this round.
Entries will be judged on the following -
a) Interesting choice of historical figures;
b) Fun and creative use of angels in their roles (e.g. Is the "face" vampy? Is the point-man intimidating?...or however else such roles might be interpreted and used in a fun way);
c) Use of spykit items;
d) How the angels infiltrate the gala;
e) How the angels survive the kingpin's Gong Show.
The entries that receive the top two highest amount of votes are survivors and will go on to the next round of competition, which is the Final Round.
5. If someone forfeits at any time in the competition, they will automatically go to the jello wrestling pit of hilarity. If someone does not post their angels during round 4, they forfeit.
6. This thread is only for selecting a time period and spy kit items. Battles will be posted on a subsequent thread.

Greeting, Kate "Tom Bosley",
We have deployed to your team the following items -
1. A grappling hook;
2. A motion sensor (this is a stationary laser that you can place and it will "alarm" you when it detects any movement);
3. A robot body-double (this can be in the likeness of any member of your team, but only one member. It has lifelike movement, but it is a little stiff and robotic looking. It doesn't talk or make sounds. You could install a small radio to transmit vocalizations, but it would sound bad and be obvious.) |

I totally choose the 80s.
Numbers 3, 9, and 12
I have noticed that some others have chosen two of these numbers...this is alright, I'll be happy to be assigned whichever numbers remain unchosen in the place of the 9 and the 12. |

Greetings, Chemical_art "Tom Bosley",
We have deployed to your team the following items -
1. A 2-in-1 set of binoculars and telescope;
2. A set of lockpicking tools;
3. Sleep capsules (this is a small bottle containing several pills of a powerful sleep agent in capsulated form. It is colorless, but smells faintly of almonds.) |

Greeting, Invicta "Tom Bosley",
We have deployed to your team the following items -
1. An encryption breaker (this is a USB drive that can be used at a computer to hack passwords and coded information);
2. A "fog spray" rose (this is a small flower that can be worn decoratively as a corsage, in the hair, on your lapel...wherever you choose. It is activated to spray a smokescreen that quickly billows and fills the immediate vicinity, which can be used to screen one's actions from the view of nearby others, or to provide cover for a getaway, and so forth);
3. A remote surveillance bug (an innocuous-looking device that can be placed/installed to provide a recorded video feed to a remote location.) |

Greeting, Relicquery "Tom Bosley",
We have deployed to your team the following items -
1. A hypnotic pocketwatch (a dapper timepiece that when swung on its chain a couple of times before a person's face lulls them into a state of suggestibility);
2. Plastique explosives (a set of tiny explosives that resemble chewing gum and go off like firecrackers. They can be affixed to most surfaces. When they explode, they do enough minor damage to suit a variety of uses);
3. An UV pen light with microscope/traveling lab (this is a ballpoint pen with a small flashlight of ultraviolet light. It contains a miniature microscope and equipment to perform very rudimentary lab analyses.) |

If you open it in three windows, waiting a few seconds between each and listen to all three at once, it's kind of like rounds of singing when you were a kid, but better (or worse, depending on your perspective).

I did what I've done in other rounds - I took Invicta's choices, and since those numbers were already selected, I continued to go down the list until there was an item that was still available. The spy kit items are all fairly interchangeable and similar in power level, so this was relatively insignificant. The remaining items went to Relicquery.
I will post the battle thread soon. |

Hey! Battle 4 is sort of simple really. Most of the work is front end...picking the historical figures.
maybe you could create an example? You would get the time period of the Roman Empire.
1. x-ray vision sun glasses 2. pen gun with silencer 3. two headed gold coin.

I will give a brief outline of how one of the entries might go.
Ancient Rome is a little difficult for two reasons. First, the further back we go in history, the more important figures tend to be mostly military or religious...two categories that are no-go. (This is why we only go back as far as the Renaissance.) However, it is possible even so to find people. The other reason is that the further back we go, historical record tends to include more men rather than women, which is lopsided. But, as they say in the fashion show...we "make it work."
So, as an example, I might choose the following:
Point-man - Vibia Sabina, two-headed gold coin Surveillance/Special ops - Virgil, x-ray vision sun glasses "Face" - Brutus, pen gun with silencer
These would have pictures...obviously... There are actually some nice pictures of gold coins I could use representatively.
My reasoning is thus...
Vibia Sabina is a woman who went her own way and was known for independence of mind and sleeping around, etc. This is the kind of tough broad, excuse the term, that I need for my heavy. She gets the two-headed gold coin because characterization-wise, she always does what she wants to do, so she flips a coin but odds be damned...she goes in fists-a-flying. Points to me for nontraditional use of spykit item (the red herring here is to give your point-man the pen gun), and also because I cast a female as my point-man...which would not normally be a big deal but we're talking the ancient world here where she'd normally be property. So...thinking to give you a show...she will do nicely.
Virgil is my surveillance guy. He is a sickly poet type to begin with, so I can't put him in the middle of the action. However, the guy has perseverance to write all those works. I use him here as my "brain". Yadda, yadda, so forth and so on. He gets the x-ray sun glasses to optimize his surveillance capacities. Maybe I can even get him close to the action posing as blind. Whatever. Politically incorrect, but this is war, kids.
Brutus as my "face". The ultimate backstabber. Et tu, Brute? Notice how I have freed up the pen gun with silencer for him to use. Did it to Caesar, do it to kingpin, I say.
How they "gel" together? Um...they are all Roman? lol. Vibia as point-man throws the kingpin off...he's not expecting Lady Danger. Brutus is another unpredictable factor. Virgil ties it all together as the "eye" who is watching the whole thing go down, recording evidence for the police (or editing out parts that are 'compromising.')
After this, I write two scenarios of these three busting into the gala, and then surviving the Gong Show. The gala...well, our competitors will use their own imaginations here. I expect these will be fun to read, the way 5 different teams simultaneously infiltrate the gala (yes, you are simultaneously infiltrating the gala...lol.)
The Gong Show? At this point, I explain how Vibia Sabina uses her trick coin for some kind of biased gamble or nonsensical weapon. But I focus on her Mae West sensibilities (I might even throw in Mae West one-liners to get some laughs and reinforce the "strong woman" characterization.) Virgil might bore him with some epic poems or something. Brutus is a charmer. Obviously, he will trade on the Et tu, Brute? joke. But I might employ a pun about the senate or something. I would probably research this one a little more to really drive it home.
But that, dear lady, in a nutshell is how I would approach it.
(And oops forgot!...also, I would select a location for my headquarters and give my reason for doing so.)
See? Totally doable.  |

I suggest that when voting on this round, everyone play this clip. I reread my example for the Roman empire to this music and it made all the difference. |

| I should also point out that I didn't select a headquarters in my example post. At any rate, I would have chosen a city and included a brief explanation for it (e.g. They're in Toronto because they were sick of Europe, or for a more sensibly strategic reason, lol, etc...) |
