Hey guys,

I saw Robert De Niro and Al Pacino typed as 5s. I don't really have an opinion about that, but it could be. It's really really hard for me to get a good read on both of them.

What do you guys think?

Well, I am not really sure of that. What we can agree on is that they both play mostly 8-roles in their films. But if you take De Niro in his Film "Casino" he gives off an 8ish (w7) flavour, but you can see the difference between him and Joe Pesci who is totally an 8.

Yeah, I know that you are not talking about that. And I'm saying "I'm not so sure about that". That's fine. Let's see what others think about them.

DeNiro always plays an eight?!

Have you seen Jackie Brown or Taxi Driver? Both super-6 roles. Not alpha male at all, in Jackie Brown he plays a weird low-key gangster who spent half his life in jail and is awkward in coping with the outside world. Agreed that many of the people in jail are in the 7/8 spot. But I think for some sixes leaning towards the cp-side the gangster scene also apeals for the sake of rebellion and being your own authority in a way.

Taxi Driver, he's an ex-vietnam guy who can't sleep and drives a cab at night. Also a 6 role imo. Later in the movie he gets more and more weird (supposedly psychotic) and tries to take out a pimp and his fellow man. Thought that was six-ish too because sixes who have morals like DeNiro like to be the hero who wipes out the ruthless bastards.

DeNiro is an 8 with a 6 fix. He has been married to a very curvy black woman for more than 20 years. He does not seem to give a damn what others think. more power to him.

Pacino is big into the Stanislavski's system, he is a "method actor".

Daniel Day-Lewis is a "method actor". He is a 5w4.
Marlon Brando was also a "method actor". He seems like an 8 that is 4 fixed.

Pacino I think could be a 4w5 who is 8 fixed. I base that on a single acceptance speech I saw him give on TV which lasted an hour.

I also think DeNiro is an ISTP, I don't think they're 8s, mostly.

Always thought 8s are dominant 'alpha male' types like ESTJ, ESTP, ENTJ.

For ISTPs I see a variety of types possible (amongst them 7w8 and 9w8), but core 8..

For Robert De Niro type 1w9>7 seems most likely.

Haven't watched many interviews, but my guess:

Al Pacino: sx/sp 6w7 - 2w3 - 8w7

Everyman quality juiced by sx. I see doubt.

I find De Niro very hard to get a read on.

My guess: sp/sx 4w3 - 8w9 - 5w4

Core type withdrawn, but too jaggedy for 9 core and obviously not 5 core. So 4. Protean quality, some constant background check around 'Is this authentic?' seen in the start of the interview with Chevy Chase when crowd is hooting.

Gets in sp 4 ruts when interacting, but pulls himself out with w3 - smiling, interacting, smoothing over.

Gut: clearly not 1. 9 is not impossible, but 8w9 seems to fit better with directness. Double reactive of 4-8, subdued by w3, w9 and sp first. The 8w9 comes out clearly in his acting - the 4w3 'absorbed' as per its protean nature.

Head: Not double assertive (7) and without the flow-in-the-head or escapist sense of 7, no 'freedom' ... not triple reactive (6) ... so, 5w4 ... adding a weird, heavy, weighed-down gappiness.

Gestalt of the penetrator ... phallic while also weak (4, 5) ... 5 last decreases the scholarliness. Without the stabilising influence of any primary type in the tritype.

"As a kid, Robert de Niro was sort of a loner ... this inward-looking pale kid ... they used to call him Bobby Milk just because his complexion was so pale ... a quiet kid who kept to himself and would rather go off in the corner and read comic books ... a very low-key kid ... he never spoke

He decided to go into the arts and acting, despite coming from a tough inner-city NY neighbourhood

His passionate fit with method-acting can be read as a 4-ish attempt to find the essence of authentic acting ... and to sluice off the self-consciousness of 4 that might stymie being a great actor.

De Niro: sp/so 4w3

4-6-8 tritype (not gonna wing it)

Too much 'shrinkage' to be an 8....yet as an accident of his existence, draws a thick line of separation/individuality/differentness.
