no, you can acquire all kinds of habits or addictions....emotionally mentally and phyically during life, that are not inborn, but cannot be helped. It doesnt matter to which typology or sphere we refer to, instinct is inborn and unlearned. This premise underwrites r and h's instincts as well.......though, when examined bearing this in mind, it is plain to see that the r and h construction is internally inconsistent and contradictory..it isn't even categorically consistent with the esoteric/philosophical allusions and connotations of the triad.

It's a good subject actually; don and rus conflated ideas from a few sources to come up with this. The principle of the triad, upon which etypes and other systems are based; the gurdjieffian instinctive triad, and modern psychologies faltering and scientifically restrained ideas about type.
The matter can be clarified by considering physical instincts, and comparing them with psychological instincts. The physical instinctive triad, according to gurdjieff are comprissed of
the instinctive centre; all the inner workings and design of the body.
the moving centre; all the movements in space made by the body.
the sexual centre; the innate desire/urge to mate/reproduce.
In contrast, psychological instincts refer to those inborn behavioral tendencies which define type itself, nothing could be more obvious, when considered.
R and h have determined three categories of behavior common to all people which vary in degree from one individual to another, and is produced by all kinds of non intinctive and type related dynamics.
the social instinct......humnas are social animals
the sexual instinct......humans are to a lesser or greater extent moved by the energy behind sex
the self pres instinct...humans behave in self preserving ways which differ in scope and degree.
it should be noted that all of these so called instincts are intrinsically self preserving, all belong to a self pres category.
the social/sexual aspects are also related and at least partial subsets of each other, since the drive to mate is governed by the necessity for social interaction, among herd and non herd animals alike.
