The Type Charts are a presentation of the most important features of each personality type, designed to allow both precise and quick access to the major psychological issues of each type for therapists, coaches, and counselors of all schools of thought. Thus with the Type Charts, professionals can help their clients see themselves more clearly, and with this clarity, their clients will gain insight into the fears and motivations that underlie their problematic, self-limiting behaviors.
The Type Charts are a treasure trove of information from the Riso-Hudson teachings which are known worldwide for their accuracy, depth, comprehensiveness, and practical usefulness. While the Type Charts are meant primarily for therapists, coaches, and counselors, both beginning students of the Enneagram, as well as more advanced students will find the Type Charts to be an invaluable resource for many applications, both in and out of professional sessions with clients.
Like the popular Enneagram Charts, this new, 15-page Type Charts set serves as a memory aid to the key materials from the Riso-Hudson books and teachings, allowing professionals to see useful information "at a glance." Unlike the former set of Enneagram Charts which were arranged by theme (the Wings, the Directions for all types, the basic personality elements, and so forth), the Type Charts organize the information by type to meet the needs of professionals during sessions with clients. Both sets of Charts complement each other, and contain substantially different information. The Type Charts, the Enneagram Charts, and The Enneagram Cards are tools that reinforce one another and offer a repertoire of approaches for people to find their own best practices.
The Type Charts set begins with an Overview that gives the purpose and rationale for using the Enneagram with clients. It is followed by a three-page section (Using the Type Charts) which explains the main elements of the Enneagram that have therapeutic and coaching relevance—such as the Centers, the Hornevian Groups, the Harmonic Groups, and the Levels of Development. This section also offers specific questions to ask clients to stimulate self-observation and insight for the coaching and therapeutic process. In addition, the set includes a keyed worksheet for making "Client Notes"—a convenient place for the professional to make observations during sessions.
Each Type Chart is divided into four major sections, giving 37 different, type-specific pieces of information along with references to specific page numbers in Riso-Hudson books for much more detail:
- A: Basic Personality Elements
- B: Increasing Identification with Personality Issues
- C: Levels of Development, and
- D: Increasing Presence and Flexibility
This first edition of the Type Charts for Therapists, Coaches, and Counselors has been "field tested" during our teleconference series, The Enneagram and Integral Coaching led by Don and Russ, as well as James Flaherty of New Ventures West, a prominent and highly respected coaching school based in San Francisco. However, this new set of Type Charts goes beyond the information that was made available to participants during that teleconference series, and is now being offered to all students of the Enneagram.
The full 15-page set costs $35 as a color, online download. (For those who do not have computers or color printers, the set is available from The Enneagram Institute in hardcopy for $50.) Individual Charts are not available. Please order the Type Charts on our Shopping Cart. The Enneagram Institute gives you permission to photocopy your download and share the information with your colleagues and clients in non-commercial contexts. The Type Charts can be printed out in black and white or color, and laminated on different paper stock, as you wish.
So that you may sample the Type Charts, a free download of two pages from the set is available: the “Overview” page (giving the purpose and rationale for using the Enneagram in therapeutic, coaching, and counseling settings) and the Type Chart for Type One (The Reformer). Please tell your friends and colleagues abut this new offering from The Enneagram Institute! We hope you and your clients benefit from having this important information in such a convenient and clear format.

Endorsements of The Enneagram Type Charts
"Before a coaching call I used to gather several Enneagram materials and spread them out around me, but these new Type Charts allow me to work with just one master sheet as I coach. I find the charts are a simple and beautifully laid out reference that allows me to more easily listen for my client’s type dilemmas and simply and quickly find powerful word choices that keep my coaching at a deep level. I love the new charts! I am certain these charts will be a brilliant resource for any coach that uses the Enneagram."

"The Type Charts are amazingly comprehensive, yet concise, with a clear explanation that will help not only those therapists, coaches, and counselors who are already familiar with the Enneagram—but those who are new to it. Client interactions can be more focused—tailored to identify each individual’s core issues along with suggestions to assist clients in achieving their goals. Thank you for providing this terrific resource!"

"These charts are wonderful! The Enneagram Charts were useful in providing the initial conversation with a client about the Enneagram, the new Type Charts provide a focused way to work with clients around issues and challenges they face. Organizing the material around the type keeps the conversation more focused and helps me not to miss key elements of the type for the client. The coaching tips you provide in the introductory charts are excellent reminders to all of us working with clients."
