Riso-Hudson Enneagram Certification
General Requirements
Those wishing to become Riso-Hudson Certified Enneagram Teachers are required to attend Parts I, II & III of the Riso-Hudson Enneagram Training Program, as well as the The Enneagram and the Inner Critic Workshop (Psychic Structures). (Students who took Part I before 2001 have already received the condensed information that now comprises the Enneagram and the Inner Critic Workshop (Psychic Structures). Attendance at this Workshop is recommended, as the material has been expanded, but is not required for Certification.) Because it contains much unpublished material, Part I is always required regardless of the student's Enneagram background. Once Part I has been completed, Parts II and III, as well as the Enneagram and the Inner Critic Workshop (Psychic Structures) can be taken in any order.
After all four parts of the Training have been completed, Certification consists of writing five take-home, open-book essays (from a selection of ten essay topics) and of submitting a video of the student teaching the Enneagram in a real-world workshop setting.
There is a $600 nonrefundable fee to enter the Certification Track. The essay answers and the Enneagram class/workshop video presentation have a suggested due date of six months from the day the certification fee was paid. We acknowledge the individual nature of the certification process, but it is important that students stay on task and complete the process.
Requests for Extensions
If more time is needed to finish Certification work, an extension may be requested in writing (email is fine). Working with the Enneagram is an organic process that matures with time. Accordingly, there can be definite benefits when a student takes longer than six months to complete their certification material as long as they are continuing to work on it.
Essay Substitutions
With the prior permission of The Enneagram Institute, students can substitute two of the five essay questions for topics of their own choice. Nevertheless, we still require that three of the standard essay questions be answered so that we can evaluate the student's expertise and see how they compare with other students who have certified.
New Open Certification
Prior to 2003, once students completed all parts of the Training Program, they needed to enroll for Certification within a certain time period or lose the opportunity. We have decided to change this policy and to allow anyone who has completed the entire Training Program since 1995 to apply for Certification at any time. The student's experience of living with and studying the Enneagram since they completed Training usually makes them more ready than ever for Riso-Hudson Certification. Students meeting these qualifications should apply with our office to get full details and the essay questions. It is the student's decision as to whether they are ready to embark on Certification. For students who feel they need additional training, we suggest that taking Part I again. There is a $600 fee for the Certification Track. Students who have already paid this and have dropped out of the Certification process, will need to pay $200 to reinstate their Certification Track status.
