Finally managed to have a complete 20 minute cold-shower. I feel that as part of the other steps I take, it helps me improve my energy and alertness levels. Other actions include: increasing proportion of protein to carbs in my diet, diversifying my protein sources to include more fish, eggs and probiotic yoghurt, and last but not least - using Korean ginseng (panax ginseng root) - very powerful stuff!

My water heater burned up once a couple years ago, and I was so busy traveling and whatever I never fixed it. I remember a few Monday mornings where it was near freezing outside, and I had to take a cold shower. this went on for 6 months, and I don't think it improved anything other than my ability to withstand complete deprivation. |

There's no conclusive evidence that cold showers even help. But I guess I am willing to take my chances in combination with other methods.
"Let me introduce you to Nikolai Shevchuk. He’s worked at the Department of Radiation Oncology at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. One day Nikolai gets an idea. What if cold showers could treat depression? After all, cold showers get the adrenaline pumping, doesn’t it? So Nikolai gets a few friends together and asks them to try taking a cold shower and seeing if it improves their moods. Nikolai probably likes to take cold showers himself and he feels just fine! So Nikolai writes down his ideas. There’s not what you’d call a huge amount of evidence for them. Nikolai tries his hardest to think up a mechanism by which cold showers can make you feel good. The adrenaline thing was good, but what if he can invoke some kind of evolutionary mechanism."

I've noticed the biggest difference in mental alertness on the days I do resistence/weights, especially the upper body work-out. This is especially true if I do some kind of modified fast, such as 18 hours of no food followed by 2 meals 6 hours apart.

It's interesting that we're discussing alertness in this thread because, to some extent, it overlaps with consciousness, which is the very subject here.
Personally, I do find that lifting weights regularly helps me improve energy levels, though perhaps not on the same day that I perform this activity, during which I may actually experience some extra fatique.

Studying some math now, I've done well calculus and differential equations during my bachelor's degree, but it's been a few years and I feel rusty by now.
Until now, I didn't have the motivation to pursue a master's degree. I've been too instant-gratification oriented and a thesis just didn't go hand in hand with it.
But I've changed and I believe a master's degree will open new doors for me. My emphasis on having the 'right lifestyle' might also contribute towards that goal.
Korean Ginseng seems to help me concentrate while studying and I'm thinking of combining it with Ginkgo Biloba.

| I am at a new work location. There is classical music playing, big windows, fresh flowers... The music is a nice backdrop for the heightened drama of my mood. It has been a long while since I have felt pleasantly fourish at my job. |

Srsly? Yes, well, I am so psychologically healthy that I when I leave the house people gasp and whisper to each other, "He looks like he's not wearing a type at all!"

Ahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could could upload pictures ...
I think I have the opposite problem. IRL, everyone agrees that I wear my type flamboyantly ... but then they bicker about which type that is. I must be super crazy. But I have been floating a new theory around lately and I'm getting a lot of "huh. That actually makes sense"s. It's always the last place you look. |

I am so upset by what's going on in the question for dfgray thread, that I have to withdraw my post that I just wrote even though it was completely unrelated. Just kidding. And now, a horrible commercial -

| That is one horrible commercial. What she did this season on "Brad Brad World" somewhat makes up for it, though. |

Here are a few pictures of men you could be dating. It could be worse:

I want you to know that I found these using the google search string "s/hitty boyfriend." I'm not kidding.
P.S. Guess who figured out how to add pictures to her posts??!! |

| Saw a therapist today..i need it..:p And she's pretty awesome. It's weird to see some people space out when they belong here. I like her job but could never deal with it. Ha I cant deal with much. I liked shaktis comment about suffering. |
