Advanced Discoveries Series

The Enneagram Institute® Advanced Discoveries Series presents programs for intermediate to advanced Enneagram students who are serious about going beyond type descriptions to explore the nine points as dynamic patterns with which we identify, thus liberating our creativity to participate in a larger sense of human purpose and meaning.

Workshop Overview

Presence is not exactly an individual matter—it connects us with others and with life in a dynamic way, and can be thought of as the living ground in which we actually meet each other. Russ has called this aspect of presence "The Relational Field."  What is amazing is that tapping into this element of our experience opens us to a wisdom and a sense of purpose not found in focusing only on our individual psyche. When we are aware of the Relational Field, it supports our ability to work with other people with more graciousness and intelligence, and in every type of relationship in our lives.

This new event is equal parts workshop and retreat, with a focus on topics including:

  • The difference between relationship and relatedness.
  • How Inner Work impacts relatedness (and vice versa).
  • Exploring Object Relations on a deeper level.
  • Freeing up attachment to old structures, and working with the real substance and material of life.
  • Developing Presence to bring forth what is necessary in our ever-changing world.

Russ Hudson is one of the principal scholars and innovative thinkers in the Enneagram world today. He has been teaching all levels of Enneagram programs in many settings throughout the world since 1991, and has co-authored five major Enneagram books, including the Wisdom of the Enneagram. Russ holds a degree in East Asian Studies from Columbia University in New York, from which he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.

After over a quarter of a century of teaching the Enneagram work across the planet, Russ has focused powerfully on the developmental aspects of the system more than simply describing personality styles. He uses the Enneagram to develop presence in people and help them go beyond psychological patterns to the deeper resources of their consciousness, allowing much greater inner freedom and creativity. He also trained for years in some of the original teachings behind the Enneagram to learn, experientially, the inner dynamics of the system, and takes students far beyond a static way of typing people. Russ has often been quoted as saying “The real Enneagram does not put you in a box. It shows you the box you did not realize you were already in and shows you the way out.”

Russ is a co-founder of The Enneagram Institute®, and is a Founding Director and former Vice-President of the International Enneagram Association.
