Why does The Enneagram Institute charge sales tax on certain purchases?

The Enneagram Institute is required to charge sales tax on orders for taxable items in accordance with applicable state and local tax laws. If your order is billed to an address in a state or locality that imposes sales tax on our products or services, then we are required to collect the sales tax and remit it to the appropriate taxing authority. The amount of the sales tax will vary by jurisdiction.

 I never paid sales tax in the past; why is it being charged now?

Following a recent Supreme Court ruling (South Dakota v. Wayfair), numerous states have changed their laws to begin imposing sales tax obligations on companies that sell remotely through websites. In many cases, online purchases of goods and services that were not previously subject to sales tax, are now being taxed. The Enneagram Institute must comply with these laws.

 What about tax exempt organizations?

If you are purchasing on behalf of a tax-exempt organization, your order will not be subject to sales tax if you are able to provide us with a valid sales tax exemption certificate in advance of your purchase. To establish your tax-exempt status with The Enneagram Institute, you must first register to have a customer account on our website. We recommend that you set up your customer account, or update your existing customer account, and provide your tax exemption certificate in advance so that the information is on file and will not delay the processing of your orders. . If our RHETI or IVQ tests are not taxable in your state, you do not need to submit a tax exemption certificate.  How do I provide information on my tax-exempt status?

You can provide information about your organization’s tax-exempt status within your customer account.  Go to the “Manage Account” tab and click on “Update Tax Exempt Status”. You will be prompted to provide information about your organization, and then you will receive an email with instructions on how to submit your exemption certificate. After your exemption certificate has been verified, you will be eligible to make tax-free purchases on our website. However, please note, if our RHETI or IVQ tests are not taxable in your state, you do not need to submit a tax exemption certificate.
